$5K short handed
I’m still alive, luckily, in the $5K short handed….
TM: I am Tiffany Michelle with PokerNews.com standing with a very important man. I’m guest assisting or hosting in Tony G.’s blog. Blog for me Tony.
Tony G: Yeah, well I’m still alive, luckily, in the 5k shorthanded. It’s been a struggle all tournament but I’m up to 150,000 now and I’m looking forward to the great contest that’s at hand. All the players left now are very good and the quality of play is so good, it’s a pleasure to play. I mean I don’t do why we’re paying rake when everyone’s playing so good and we’re playing such an interesting sport and competition event.
But anyway I’m lucky be here, lucky to play, and I’m in good form. I think I’ve got a strategy worked out. I’m playing very tight, just waiting for opportunities because players are raising and I’m just picking off and playing very risk averse. I’ve played that strategy the whole tournament, I mean I haven’t…I’ve avoided all-ins and I’ve avoided calling even if I think I have the best hand. I’ve changed a few little things in my game and I think it works very well in this six handed. I mean people have to play very loose and very aggressive. Instead I’ve adjusted and played really tight and if I had a good run, I could run over the top of the table when I change my game again. But I’m happy with how it’s progressed.
TM: And at one point I looked over and you were super short stacked and I thought that you were almost out the door. What was the hand that turned it around?
Tony G: I had K-10 and there was a little raise from Mark Voss and a call on the small blind and I had to call. It was 10k more and I had about 50 before that pot and the flop was a blank but Mark had Jacks and he checked it on the button so he let me in. Then the turn came a King. The player in the small blind made a small bet, I moved all-in, and Mark Voss folded his jacks, and he showed me A-9. And he had a flush draw but luckily the river paired a four and I was virtually tripled up in that pot so that was very good and very fortunate.
TM: And we just talked about Mark Voss and you also had Eric Friedberg at your table. How do you like your table draw at this point? Those guys both have a lot of chips right now. Are they playing aggressive or do you have a pretty good read on them at this point?
Tony G: They’re great players. They know what to do, they won’t make any mistakes so we all play pretty good…I mean we try out best, you know but I think that Mark is a super player. He’s a massive winner online, consistently, and Friedberg as well. I mean, I haven’t played with him before so it’s just a pleasure to play on that table and hopefully later I can play with Phil Hellmuth.
TM: I was going to say, how fun would it be if you and Phil both make the final table, do you think there would be…would it be serious or would there be a lot of fun…you know…kind of trash talking, or do you think you’d have it out?
Tony G: It would be very serious and the gloves would be off and I’d be attacking Phil with full force and the full power of Tony G.
TM: Sounds good, well we look forward to it. Tony G., I’m guest hosting your blog. It’s been wonderful. Good luck in there. We’re definitely pulling for you. For PokerNews.com, I’m Tiffany Michelle, he’s Tony G.
